WEATHER CONDITIONS AND CLOSINGS
Please note that we follow the county public school closing policy for the respective academy (AACO for Annapolis and Montgomery County for Wheaton). You can sign up on our Facebook page to view announcements directly from us on closures.
The following are our closure and cancellation procedure in accordance with the local weather reports.
Winter Storm Warning or Winter Snow Emergency – if in effect during the time of our regularly scheduled classes, we will cancel those classes. When the National Weather Service issues a winter storm warning or snow emergency, they recommend that you stay indoors and not travel.
Winter Weather Advisory – snow, freezing rain or sleet may present a hazard, but it is not considered significant enough to issue a warning. Conditions should be safe if reasonable precautions are observed. Classes will usually be at regular times but may be cancelled depending on conditions near our academies in Annapolis or Wheaton.
Winter Storm Watch – Potential for heavy snow or ice in 24 to 36 hours. This indicates that you should start checking weather reports regularly as a storm is predicted for the next day, but conditions may change. We will follow our regular schedule for classes.
When there is little uncertainty about the upcoming weather conditions during our class schedule, we may not be able to make a decision early and let you know the previous day. Unfortunately, there are often constantly changing predictions about snow or icy conditions and when the weather will occur. When that is the case, we will wait as late as possible to make a decision. However, if classes will be cancelled for the day because of the weather, we will always decide at least by 3:00 pm and we will post the closure on or Facebook page.
