Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the “Ultimate” martial art, and self defense system. It focuses on grappling and being able to defend from the ground. From the onset Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo, ground fighting (newaza) and was taught by a number of individuals including Takeo Yano, Mitsuyo Maeda and Soshihrio Satake. Eventually Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became it’s own form or martial art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of judo through Carlos and Hélio Gracie, who passed their techniques and knowledge to their families and other instructors who were students of Maeda.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches concepts and techniques that enable a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend against a bigger, stronger person by using leverage, body positioning and applying joint-locks and choke-holds.

You don’t have to be Super Strong…
Strength in some ways can actually hurt can your progress! We know it sounds crazy but strength and students who rely on it fail to master the true technique. The cause of this is that those who are incredibly strong often rely way too much on their strength. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is designed with techniques that require little to no strength at all. Once you start training you will become stronger in the application of those techniques. Once you master the employment of techniques, and how to use your given ability of strength you will notice how powerful this Martial Art truly is!!!!!!

Where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Comes From!
Since its inception in 1882, its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese Jujutsu by an important difference that were passed on to Brazilian jiu-jitsu: it is not solely a martial art, it is also a sport port; a method for promoting physical fitness and building character in young people; and, ultimately, a way of life.
Jiu Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990’s, when Royce Gracie won the 1st, 2nd and 4th Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), which at the time were single elimination martial arts tournaments. Royce fought against often much larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including Boxing; Shoot-fighting- Muay Thai, Karate, Wrestling and Tae Kwon Do. It has since become a staple art for many MMA fighters and is largely credited for bringing widespread attention to the importance of ground fighting. Now you have an opportunity to learn BJJ and to see for yourself, why it’s so effective.
