  • Two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Lapel Choke Variations

    Here are two variation of lapel chokes that I've been currently working on. They require you to remove the lapel from your opponent, and eventually either loop the lapel around the arm or to lasso your own leg to finish with a choke.   • BJJ Scissor Sweep to Modified Arm Triangle Choke

    Here is a quick technique that we worked yesterday at the Team Randori BJJ Wheaton, MD academy. You start with the traditional Scissor Sweep set up (Lapel & Sleve Grips), shrimp out and perform the sweep. Once the opponent is swept, you pull yourself up, and simultaneously loop the head with the arm to end up with a Gift-wrap position on your opponent. From the Gift-wrap position and having your hand near the neck you can simply apply a punch choke to submit your opponent. If this submission attempt does not work, you can re-adjust from this position. The transition/adjustment is you place the hand from the neck on your opponents triceps to maintain control.   • Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Technique of the Week

    This weeks technique in the kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class has been to establish and maintain the Mounted Position. In this position the key elemental details that we have foused on with the kids was the following:
    Mount (Chest to Chest)
    Hooks or Grapevines in (use feet to hook opponents legs)
    Hip-Pressure. (Hips / Pelvis needs to be heavy pressing against opponent. This will cause knees to slightly rise off the mat)
    Head Control (Arm wrapped around head with elbow on the mat and palm of hand down. Opposite arm extended to establish a post out at in about the 11 O'clock position)
