Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

If You Cannot Defend Yourself On The Ground.  Then You Cannot Defend Yourself!!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ.)  Right here in Annapolis, MD

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the “Ultimate” martial art, and self defense system.  It focuses on grappling and being able to defend from the ground. From the onset Brazilian jiu-jitsu was formed from Kodokan Judo, ground fighting (newaza) and was taught by a number of individuals including Takeo Yano, Mitsuyo Maeda and Soshihrio Satake. DSC_0023 (4).jpgEventually Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became it’s own form or martial art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of judo through Carlos and Hélio Gracie, who passed their techniques and knowledge to their families and other instructors who were students of Maeda.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches concepts and techniques that enable a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend against a bigger, stronger person by using leverage, body positioning and applying joint-locks and choke-holds.

You don’t have to be in Shape…

It’s a common thought that most people have, but it’s just NOT TRUE.  Most of our students come looking to get in shape, but it happens along the way. It’s in the process of learning the art and striving for technical mastery that students awake one day and find that they have gotten into the best physical shape of their lives. That’s why it’s such a great way to improve your fitness, as it happens without you realizing it!

You don’t have to be Super Strong…

Strength in some ways can actually hurt can your progress! We know it sounds crazy but strength and students who rely on it fail to master the true technique.  The cause of this is that those who are incredibly strong often rely way too much on their strength. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is designed with techniques that require little to no strength at all.  Once you start training you will become stronger in the application of those techniques.  Once you master the employment of techniques, and how to use your given ability of strength you will notice how powerful this Martial Art truly is!!!!!!

You don’t need any Experience at ALL…

We here this all the time.. ” I’m scared to train because I don’t have any experience.” We understand where you are coming from. Starting something new can be scary, sometimes downright terrifying. Our focus is on beginners, as a program. All of our classes are designed with the beginner in mind so you don’t need to worry. We will give you all the tools necessary to go from no experience to experienced in no time! Remember: “A Journey of a Thousand miles starts with a Single Step.”

You can start to Change your Life Today!!!

The truth is… We’ve opened Team Randori in Annapolis for one reason. Martial Arts changed all of our lives. We’ve met some of our best friends, had some of our best memories and gained so many benefits that have spread throughout our lives that we wanted to share it with our friends and family here in Annapolis. Whether you want to lose weight, get in shape, learn to defend yourself, compete, or fight in the ring, I promise we can get you there.

Where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Comes From!

Since its inception in 1882, its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese Jujutsu by an important difference that were passed on to Brazilian jiu-jitsu: it is not solely a martial art, it is also a sport port; a method for promoting physical fitness and building character in young people; and, ultimately, a way of life.

Jiu Jitsu came to international prominence in the martial arts community in the early 1990’s, when Royce Gracie won the 1st, 2nd and 4th Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), which at the time were single elimination martial arts tournaments. Royce fought against often much larger opponents who were practicing other styles, including Boxing; Shoot-fighting- Muay Thai, Karate, Wrestling and Tae Kwon Do. It has since become a staple art for many MMA fighters and is largely credited for bringing widespread attention to the importance of ground fighting. Now you have an opportunity to learn BJJ and to see for yourself, why it’s so effective.

At Team Randori, you’ll receive high level instruction in the art of Jiu Jitsu, all the while gaining valuable Self-Defense experience and undergoing an incredible transformation of your body and mind.

Amazing experience! My 4 year old daughter loves coming to Randori and "working-out" with her friends. The staff is wonderful with kids and foster a warm and comfortable environment for learning. The teachers value respect and it shows through the kids. I highly recommend Randori for anyone who wants to give their kids a sense of self-confidence, and respect for others. They also give your child a trial period to see what it's all about. Come check it out!

The First Responder club held on Mon, Wed, and Friday mornings is great. The turn out is impressive with fire fighters and police from Anne Arundel, Prince Georges, Baltimore City and County.

My friend took me to a JiuJitsu class here, and it was amazing. I like going on Mondays when Carlos is there. He allows me to jump right in to the class, even with the very little experience, and was very patient and encouraging. The warm up itself is a workout, and I left the gym feeling energized and motivated. The great thing about jiujitsu it's that it provides you with self defense skills, discipline, and tactical thinking. Also, this gym has an fantastic after school program for kids! Definitely check out Team Randori!

We were looking for a new academy for our kids. Their first one closed and we weren't happy with the next one we went to, and then we found Team Randori. The facilities are top notch - everything is clean and new. The coaches are very good with kids, and are experienced practitioners who concentrate on building the fundamentals - not trying to teach overly complicated, trendy moves that kids can't effectively apply. Parents sit in a room upstairs where they can watch the class on video monitors, so there are no overzealous moms or dads yelling out commands to their kids while they roll. Perhaps most importantly, there are no 'cliques' - it's a very mellow, low key environment that promotes confidence in my kids, and has them looking forward to going to classes there.

Confidence, mental-toughness, and teamwork - these are the tools I have gained from joining Team Randori Martial Arts. After a few weeks, I felt like I was a part of a family amongst the staff and other members. The training was a challenge, but the coaches helped me recognize that I can train harder than I thought I was capable of. As a member of the military, I believe I can carry on these skills to my job. I am so thankful for my experience at Team Randori, for the lessons I have learned, the friendships I have made, and the training that I have received. I encourage others to check out this gym to see what an amazing community Team Randori has created.

Excellent place, my 5 year old son enjoyed it very much. He was so excited as soon as we got home after the first class, he started to practice as soon as we got home. My son started to practice with his dad, my husband has practiced Marital Arts for a long period of time, so he can tell this is the right place for our son, he find this place very professional. Instructors are well knowledge, patient, and make class fun. My son has been training for almost a year now, he is having fun while learning, they use different technique and make it fun at the same time.

I have never done anything like martial arts, and on a whim started attending Team Randori, and it has been amazing. Each session pushes me to new levels, and I am feeling healthier and more confident with every class. The Coaches, Al and Dameron are good people who you want to train with. When i was new there was never any feeling of not belonging. When I started I trained beside everyone else, and never felt out of place. Warm, welcoming, yet intense, is how I would describe it. My only regret is that it took me so long to join....
